As the cold weather approaches, many children in our community will be facing the winter months without a proper jacket.
In the bitter desert cold of the borderland region, a proper coat can determine whether a child will go to school on a winter day or stay home – leaving an impact on attendance, learning, and stability. For other children, lack of an appropriate jacket can affect their access to the outdoors during the cold months, missing out on experiences with others and the benefits from engaging with nature. Others that do brave the low temperatures without enough outerwear, face the challenge of interacting with the world while their bodies work twice as hard as adults to regulate their body temperatures, effecting human processes and the freedom of simply being a child.
Rising costs for basic needs mean that many families are forced to choose between essentials like food and shelter, leaving only a small budget available for warm clothing.Â
Protection from the elements, and in this case, the cold, is a basic right.
That’s why the Underserved Communities Foundation (UCF) is bringing back the 3rd Annual UCF Jackets for Kids initiative to provide 500 new winter jackets at an average cost of $20 each to local children in need.
How You Can Help:
Get involved by creating a team and working together for a cause. After all, it is true that we are better together.
This is great for companies, organizations, and families who would like to engage their team members in a competitive season of giving.
Just $20 provides a brand-new jacket for a child. Donate as an individual, or team up to scale up your impact, it all makes a difference.
Share the opportunity to give the gift of warmth to a child with your family and friends.
Bonus: UCF will match all donations up to $2,000, doubling your impact! Together, we can ensure every child stays warm and confident this winter.Â
